We decided to get Charlotte her first bicycle this spring! After a lot of research, we decided on a balance bike, or "run" bike. A balance bike teaches a child the most important skill of riding a bike first: balance! Pedaling is pretty instinctive, Charlotte knew how to pedal when she tried a tricycle for the first time. Using a balance bike skips the step of training wheels, which can be hard to let go of. The Strider is a popular brand, but we decided on the Norco bike as it has a sturdier frame. We wanted air tires, but they didn't sell that type of Norco in the city.
(yes this is me being incredibly enthusiastic and our house which I did not tidy pre-picture!)
Our first dilemma came as we left the store... Charlotte desperately wanted pedals and had a melt down as we were in the line up to pay. We made it to the car with bike and tearful toddler, but with some encouragement, I think she likes her bike!
(riding in Nannie and Grampie's basement that day)
It has been incredibly windy here lately, but we have gotten out for a few rides. Charlotte rides and I walk along beside. Her stride is getting longer and more confident and I'm sure by the end of the summer she will be zooming around!

I think she'll be hitting the trails before we know it!
(Tim took this while she was practicing at Nannie and Grampie's house - forgive the fact that you have to turn your head sideways!)
Aww...that's cute!! She'll be a pro in no time! =)
