books, books and more books!

I love books. I love having books around me, I love seeing my bookshelves packed full. I love bookstores and libraries.

I lost my love of reading post-university days. Being forced to read in school made reading seem like a chore. Last year, I decided to join a book club at the library to try and get back into the habit of reading fiction. For fun! I love reading pregnancy, birth and parenting books. But it's been a long time since I devoured fiction and read because I just couldn't put it down.

The book club was a great start to instilling a love for reading back into my life. I discovered some treasures. Now this year, I decided to start my own book club that was friendly to babies and spouses and whoever wanted to join! All of a sudden, I am devouring books again. I can't put them down!

Here are the books we have read for book club:
"A Million Miles in a Thousand Years" by Donald Miller
"The Memory Keeper's Daughter" by Kim Edwards
"Ragged Islands" by Don Hannah

And next month:
"Kiss the Joy as it Flies" by Sheree Fitch

Because I can't seem to stop reading, I've also started reading the books for this online book club. I can't put down "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin. (Perhaps we should choose this one for book club... we need some happy books!)

I am thankful to enjoy reading again. Now I just have to figure out how to get Lila to stop grabbing the book while she is nursing...

What are YOU reading lately? Do you make time to read books, just for fun?

  1. I used to just devour books! Now, it seems like I can only get a page or two read at a time before I either fall asleep or someone needs my attention. A few of my favourites: The Blessing Stone, The Rapture of Canaan, The Red Tent, Year of Wonders (prepare for a cry), and Drowning Ruth.

  3. Oh, The Red Tent is one I really want to read. I must order it from the library before I forget! Time is an issue for me too. Lately, I've been putting a couple of books on the table beside the couch where I nurse and I tend to grab it more often.

Sorry you don't like "Ragged Islands" Tracy! It's a sad book... I need to pick some happier reads!
