if you knew you couldn't fail...

So a friend on mine posted a question on her Facebook wall:

If you knew you couldn't fail, what would you do?

Immediately my thoughts started turning in my head.  What WOULD I do?  Two thoughts immediately entered my brain and wouldn't leave.

1. I would write more.  I would write every day and gather lots of bits and pieces in journals for blogging, and for writing a book.  I would diligently work towards writing and publishing a book.  This book would probably be non-fiction and focus on attachment parenting and extended breastfeeding.

2. I would homeschool my children.

The first thought seems thwarted by time and fear of actually opening pages and writing things down.  Fear of beginning the whole process.  Is that due to fear of failure in the end?  What others will think about my honesty?  Eeek, the fear of what others think AND the fear of failure!

The second is constantly occupying my thoughts right now.  I am trying to plan for our homeschool preschool year this fall and cannot seem to make final decisions about curriculum and actually narrow down our plan.  The stakes are high when it comes to making the decision to homeschool.  This is my child's life, her future, her every day experience.  What am I going to do?

The thing is, failure often leads to the most learning, the most growth. I have experienced this, and although not pleasant, failure often brings a depth of knowledge that never would have happened otherwise.  What could I lose by actually trying?

So....... If you knew you couldn't fail, what would you do?

  1. So many things! One of my biggest dreams, and the one that just won't go away, is to move overseas for a year. I don't know where...and it doesn't really matter :) I'd love to experience a new language and culture, and I think it'd be great for the kids. I've thought of Nicaragua, Cuenca (Ecuador), Thailand, Philippines...who knows? Maybe one day. I'd also like to build a sustainable community.
